Junk Bots have become a favorite project in our weekly kids’ classes! We started offering it as a birthday party, then a summer camp and now a Saturday workshop!

Our Bots start with a colorful block of wood with holes drilled for eyes, arms, legs and antennas. Kids will choose from a variety of screws, nails, washers, nuts, and other junky bits to create their robot’s body parts and then use pliers and screwdrivers to assemble their bots.

This is a great problem solving activity! Kids have to think about how to actually assemble their bot, what size and what type of fastener will work best. We are always impressed with the ideas that the kids come up with. We have had Snake-Bots, Unicorn Bots, Pig and Sheep bots and even a Loch-Ness-Monster-Bot!

This would be a very cool workshop for dads (or grandads) and kids to do together!
